Letter to Senator Schumer: Stop Funding Trump’s Deportation Machine
March 10, 2018
Dear Senator Schumer:
Do not allow Congress to increase funding for programs and policies that support the deportation of Dreamers.
We know that the President has rejected three bipartisan deals to provide a legislative solution for DACA recipients (after his administration stopped accepting new applications for the program). We know that he continues to blame Congressional Democrats. We know that federal court orders have slowed the rate at which DACA work permits are expiring, and we know that since the Supreme Court refused to take up the President’s request to review DACA, Dreamers will be allowed to renew their status.
However, Dreamers are still not safe. The Trump deportation machine is alive and well, and it is your responsibility to resist it during negotiations for the omnibus spending bill.
Push back on this administration: it is advancing white supremacy. As you said, “protecting the Dreamers is our moral obligation.”
Here’s what I am asking you to do:
- Refuse an increase in funding for both Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
- Do not support funding for Trump’s border wall. It has no place in our country or its budget.
- Refuse additional funding for detention beds and facilities.
- Support policies that defend family-based immigration. Americans are humanitarians with a fundamental respect for family.
Sincerely,
Your constituents
