Dear Senator Schumer:

The Trump administration is not committed to ending family separation. Instead of locking up families separately, they seek to expand and consolidate indefinite detainment of families, creating a system of mass incarceration for asylum seekers. This administration also wants to break the courts by finding a federal judge that will support their policies.

A solution is more than the President’s responsibility. You are the leader of the opposition party in the Senate, and it’s up to you to:

  • Prevent moderate Democrats from going along with the next wave of harmful immigration bills that expand detention through a zero-tolerance policy or provide funding for a border wall;
  • Join the national movement to abolish ICE, which is an undemocratic, extrajudicial deportation force that is terrorizing New Yorkers. It needs to be taken apart and investigated;
  • Block spending bills that do not reduce funding for ICE and CBP, and grind Senate business to a halt if necessary to do so;
  • Pursue a policy and a plan to reunite the over 2000 minors that have been abducted from their parents, especially those in New York.

Sincerely,

Your constituent
